The Pope makes things clear to those who want a different Ch |
|
In what, without the slightest doubt, is one of the most important homilies of his pontificate , Benedict XVI yesterday made things very clear to those in the Church who have made disobedience and rebellion against the magisterium their "modus vivirdi." The Pope explicitly referred to the large group of Austrian priests who have wanted to undertake in the 21st century the path that the Protestant reformers once took. These were the words of the Holy Father: Recently, a group of priests in a European country published a call to disobedience, at the same time providing concrete examples of how this disobedience can be expressed, which should ignore even definitive decisions of the Magisterium; for example, in the question of the ordination of women, on which Blessed Pope John Paul II has irrevocably declared that the Church has not received any authority on this from the Lord. But is disobedience a path to renew the Church? We want to believe the authors of this call when they affirm that they are moved by concern for the Church; his conviction that the slowness of institutions must be confronted with drastic means to open new paths, to bring the Church back up to speed with the times.
Disobedience truly a path? Can we see in this something of the configuration with Christ, which is the presupposition of an authentic renewal, or is it not rather just a desperate desire to do something, to transform the Church according to our desires and our ideas? The Bishop of Rome graciously concedes that there may be good intentions in these rebels, but he warns them that the path they have taken is wrong. What's more, he points to the heart of the matter. What these dissidents want is to transform the Church according to their desires and ideas . Or in other words, that the Church is made in the image and likeness of her. The Pope is not satisfied with showing the error of the false reformers. He also points the way for the constant renewal of the Church : Since Paul, and Job Function Email List throughout history, we have continually been given these “translations” of the way of Jesus into living figures of history. We, priests, can think of a great multitude of holy priests, who have preceded us to show us the path: starting with Polycarp of Smyrna and Ignatius of Antioch, passing through great Pastors such as Ambrose, Augustine and Gregory the Great, to Ignatius of Loyola , Carlos Borromeo, Juan Mara Vianney, to the martyred priests of the 20th century. XX and, finally, Pope John Paul II who, in activity and suffering, has been an example for us in configuration with Christ, as "gift and mystery.
The saints tell us how renewal works and how we can put ourselves at their service. And they also allow us to understand that God does not look at great numbers or external successes, but rather refers his victories to the humble sign of the mustard seed. These are the true reformers. There are those who show the path that God wants for his Church. Nothing to do with those who call for disobedience , with those who do not accept the authority of the magisterium, with those who have not only taken the wrong path but who lead others towards the abyss of their errors and their arrogance. After remembering that the Year of Faith begins shortly, Benedict XVI also sends a clear message that must be accepted and assumed not only by the heterodox progressive-liberals, but also by those who have been opposing the last council to a greater or lesser extent for some time. ecumenical : But we all have experience that we need help to transmit it correctly in the present, in a way that truly moves our hearts. We find this help first of all in the word of the teaching Church: the texts of the Second Vatican Council and the Catechism of the Catholic Church are the essential instruments that authentically tell us what the Church believes from the Word of God.
